March 18, 2004
Black willows are native to the eastern half of the United States. Weeping willows are an introduced species that originated in China and East Asia. The two species interbreed, creating hybrids with a mixture of characteristics, and headaches for people trying to identify them.

The preferred environment for both species is near water with wet soil conditions.
