Tree Swallow Nesting Boxes
The Reservation’s fifteen tree swallow nesting boxes were put up a few days before this photo was taken.  During a Friends group bird walk on April 2, we observed tree swallows flying around and entering all of the six boxes we passed during the walk. The benefit of putting up the boxes at the right moment is that it doesn’t give house sparrows time to move in and exclude the swallows.  If the swallows get there first, they usually are able to chase off the sparrows. This box (#1) is located near the Pond in front of the Water Department.
