Wind in the Willow
The bright yellow twigs of this willow against the clear blue sky seemed
especially beautiful today, and perhaps a harbinger of spring. This
tree, on the edge of the golf course between Little Fresh Pond and Black's
Nook, may be a weeping willow/black willow hybrid. The color is right
for a weeping willow(Salix babylonica) but the relatively short
twigs are more typical of black willows (Salix nigra.) Willows
are known to hybridize readily.
