Tree Work on the Huron Avenue Hillside
In preparation for a major project to stabilize the steep "Glacken
Slope" below Huron Avenue, City arborists removed a number of invasive
Norway Maples (Acer platanoides)
Black Locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia) and Common Buckthorns (Rhamnus
cathartica. In their place will be planted native trees, shrubs, and
herbaceous plants, all of which will help hold the soil and create habitats
that willsupport native animal species ranging from rabbits to the larvae
of native butterflies.
