The Evolution of the Natural Landscape of Fresh Pond
A large and enthusiastic group of Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation
members turned out to hear Charles Sullivan, Executive Director of the
Cambridge Historical Commission, speak and show slides about the Fresh
Pond area: the evolution of the natural landscape, as it has been affected
by human settlement - as a Native American hunting ground and probable
burial place, a source of fuel and food for colonists, and a place of
recreation, natural ice, and drinking water in the 19th century. He
also explored the tension between park advocates and watershed protection
managers in the 20th century.
