Closed or Bottle Gentian (Gentiana clausa)
The petals of this beautiful blue wildflower never open, presenting pollinating insects with the challenge of reaching the desired nectar by poking or biting a hole in the side. The reproductive strategy seems to work, since the plants do produce seeds. This single plant is growing in a safe spot where dogs are not allowed to run.
