Greenup Walk
April 9, 2005

Seven seekers of Spring took a walk to observe seasonal changes in plant and animal life on the Reservation. We saw migrating hooded mergansers; recently-returned tree swallows inspecting the nesting boxes; the flowers of red and silver maples; whitlow grass, a tiny wildflower in bloom; and the weeping willow tree turning green.

In this photo the Old Meadow area near Black's Nook is just beginning to show green: a bit of grass, sprouts of tansy and goldenrod, fat shadbush buds, a golden hue on the distant black willows. This scene will change dramatically over the next few weeks.
