Interrupted Fern, Osmunda claytoniana
Somewhat similar in appearance to the Cinnamon Fern, this species has the unique characteristic of producing its spores on the middle pinnae of its fronds. The fronds appear to have withered pinnae or gaps in the middle. When not producing spores, the most noticeable difference from the Cinnamon fern is the rounded appearance of the fronds and their tips. Interupted ferns are growing in the planting beds next to the Water Department building to the left of the Ranger station.
