Locust Borer (Megacyllene robineae)
on Rough Stemmed Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa)

The Locust Borer starts life as an egg laid in a slit that was cut
into the bark of a black locust tree by the female parent. The larva
lives on the sapwood of the tree. After pupation, the adult beetle
emerges in late summer, and thereafter lives on goldenrod nectar and pollen.
