          Larch or Tamarack (Larix larcina)
Unlike most other conifers, larches shed their needles
every autumn after a display of the brightest gold.
Thus they are able to withstand temperatures even
lower than most evergreens can tolerate, and they are
found far up in the Northwest Territories even beyond
where balsam firs can grow. This small stand, which
is visible from the Pond Road, is growing along the
edge of the golf course west of Black's Nook.
