          What IS that bird?
It is an immature double-crested cormorant. Two of them
have been roosting in the dead branches of a cottonwood tree
on the northwest side of the Pond. These birds are usually seen
swimming low in the water. They dive for fish and return to the
surface to swallow them head-first and whole. Adults are all black
with orange bare skin on the face and throat. They do roost and
          sometimes nest in trees.
