Hop Hornbeam, Ironwood, Ostrya virginiana
Another tree that is easy to recognize in winter because of its
unique bark, this native understory tree can be found along the
Beech Path that parallels the shoreline on the hill in back of
Neville Place. The bark on this 10-inch diameter tree forms
narrow furrows that seem to twist around the trunk.
