First Flower
At first we thought this pretty little flower was mouse-ear chickweed,
but the four petals (instead of five, as in chickweeds) reveal it as
a member of the mustard family. Using Newcomb's Wildflower Guide and
a bit of Google, we have identified it as Whitlow Grass (Draba verna),
a small non-native weed that can be found from Massachusetts to Illinois.
These plants are growing next to a storm drain near the back patio
of Neville Place.
