Shadbush (Amelanchier alnifolia)
aka Serviceberry, Juneberry, Shadblow
Shadbushes are now blooming in many locations on the Reservation.

The five-petaled flowers, downy leaves, and grey striped bark are a
lovely combination. These small trees are native to North America.
Their dark purple fruits, which ripen in June, are small but delectable.
One must compete with many ravenous birds to get even a handful.
Because the flowers provide nectar for insects, and the berries are a
popular treat for many animals, shadbushes are considered to have
high wildlife value.
