American Filbert or Hazelnut (Carya americana)

These shrubs are growing among an assortment of native
species that have been planted in the Kingsley Park area.

Hazelnuts produce numerous male (pollen-producing)
flowers, which mature to about 3 inches in length. The
female flowers (which will produce the nut) are few and
tiny, about 1/8 inch across, They are a vivid magenta in color.
