This wetland at the base of the Weir Meadow hillside
is a bio-swale. It collects rainwater runoff from the hill, filtering
and purifying it as it drains into Fresh Pond. The area has been seeded
with native wildflowers such as Joe-Pye Weed, New England Asters, and
several Goldenrod species; and planted with native shrubs and trees
including Bayberry, Sweet Pepperbush, River Birch, and Swamp White Oak.
Over the course of the summer,
a colorful display of wildflowers will unfold. Many birds and other
small animals visit or live in this area.
