The Woodland Habitat Restoration Project
This section of woods adjacent to the Perimeter Road about ¼ mile north of the Water Department, is a volunteer-managed attempt to return a section of degraded, invasives-filled woods, to a healthy woodland with a variety of native species. After a large number of non-native buckthorns, bittersweet, mulberries were removed in 2012, new plants were purchased, donated, or divided from nearby areas. As this year’s growing season winds down, we are happy to observe that the new plants have become established, and the woods are filled with variety on many levels. This is an ongoing project that will need considerable maintenance for many years. Poultry netting cages surround plants that we observe have been browsed upon by hungry rabbits.
