Allegheny Monkeyflower, Mimulus ringens
This unusual little perennial wildflower is a New England native that grows best in wet soils. It supposedly resembles the face of a monkey. Volunteers working in the Woodland Habitat Restoration Project have grown these plants and a number of other native perennials and shrubs from seeds. The goal of the project is to create an ecosystem that is similar to one that might have been there before European settlers arrived in the 1600's.
