A Migratory Bird Walk
Today's bird walk was well attended by both birders and birds. About
16 of us spotted 30 bird species, including a number of migrants: Ring-necked
Ducks, Belted Kingfisher, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Tree Swallows, Palm
Warblers, Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles.
The pair of Tree Swallows in this photo taken by Jim Koll have claimed
a nesting box next to the Pond near Sousa's Rock. The Friends group
maintains 15 boxes for swallows, which consume large numbers of flying
insects such as mosquitoes and other pests.
