Fall Fruit
The Reservation is currently laden with an abundance of fruit. Much
of this bounty will become food for birds and other animals. This is
by no means a loss for the plants; the seeds inside the fruit will pass
through the digestive systems of the animals and be deposited, intact
and ready to grow, wherever the animal defecates.
Shown here are Winterberry holly (Ilex verticillata), Black Gum,
aka Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica) and Eastern Red Cedar, (Juniperus
virginiana.)
