White Oak, Quercus alba
Planted in Memory of Bonnie Solomon
Bonnie, a long-time Cantabridgian who died on September 8, 2003, is
remembered as an outgoing, outspoken, fun-loving and generous person
who was the glue that held her neighborhood together. Bonnie was an
enthusiastic participant in the Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation.
White Oaks are noted for their huge contribution toward supporting
life in the forest, most obviously because of their tasty acorns that
are consumed by many animals, but also by the fact that hundreds of
insect species live and depend on their bark and leaves. Other animals,
especially birds, eat these insects and feed them to their young.
The tree is located on the Kingsley Park Hillside facing southwest.
