Can Spring be Far Behind?

Spring flowering Witch Hazel, Hamamelis vernalis, is an early harbinger of spring. This cultivar, called Arnold Promise, was developed at Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum. It is not a native species, but there is a New England native Witch Hazel - Hamamelis virginiana, which flowers late in the fall.
