Why Did This Turtle Cross The Road?
Probably to lay her eggs on the other side. Turtles, including Painted Turtles like this one, travel some distance from their home in the water to lay their eggs. When the young turtles hatch they have to find their own way to the water. In this case that will involve crossing the perimeter road and avoiding the wheels of vehicles, the feet of runners, and the curiosity of dogs.
