Dogwoods

A variety of native dogwoods grow at Fresh Pond Reservation. Many have been naturalized in the area for years, and others have been introduced with the recent restorations. The species are most easily distinguished in the fall, because of their distinctive berries.
Shown here:
Top left - Gray Twigged Dogwood, Cornus racemosa
Top right - Swamp Dogwood, Cornus amomum supsp. oblique
Bottom left - Silky Dogwood, Cornus amomum
Bottom right - Pagoda Dogwood, Cornus alternifolia.
There are also Red-stemmed Dogwoods (Cornus sericea) and Flowering Dogwoods (Cornus florida) at Fresh Pond, but they did not have berries at this time.
