June 25, 2012 Ted Elliman (top photo, on right) from the New England Wild Flower Society gave this large group of plant enthusiasts a tour of the Woodland Restoration Project, identifying plants and and describing their attributes. All plants in the Project are locally native (pre-dating European colonists) to the Middlesex County area. Three plants of interest included flowering Swamp Azalea (white) Rhododendron viscosum, Purple-flowering Raspberry, Rubus odoratus, and the leaves of Striped Wintergreen, Chimaphila maculata. This project, located next to the Perimeter Road about 1/3 mile north of the Water Department, is a volunteer effort currently being attended by 5 gardeners. Shown are Elizabeth Wylde, Suzanna Black, Susan Coolidge and Betsy Meyer. Pamela Hart was away on vacation. Photos by Carol Benoit Reynolds |
