          The Owl and the Squirrel
At 3:45 this afternoon the well-known screech owl was snoozing in its
favorite tree cavity, ignoring a nearby squirrel that was nibbling on
some food. A moment later the squirrel had scrambled down to the ground
and the owl opened its eyes briefly, only to settle back for another
nap. Other bird sightings today include one male bufflehead, one female
ruddy duck, two American coots, six canvasbacks, and nineteen ring-necked
          ducks.
