Plant Nursery at the Cambridge Water Department
These racks hold pots containing native tree species that will eventually
be planted in the woods to the west of the Woodland Restoration Project
(WRP).
This new project is being planned and carried out by volunteers from
Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation. The goal is to restore locally native
vegetation to the area using a minimal amount of money. Plants are being
acquired in the following ways: purchased as small bare-root specimens
for about $2 each, grown from purchased and collected seeds, rooted
from cuttings, divided from mature clumps, and transplanted from the
WRP and from donors.
Ultimately, we hope these woods will protected from human and dog intruders
so that they can provide habitat for small animals.
