          Bloodroot, Sanguinaria Canadensis
These woodland wildflowers growing at Fresh Pond are New England natives.
The delicate looking flowers emerge early in the spring, before the
trees leaf out. As the flowers lose their petals, palmate leaves will
emerge. By July the leaves will die back, and the plants will become
dormant until the following spring. Bloodroot is aptly named: the sap
in the roots is bright red in color.
