Wild Trees at Fresh Pond
Ranger Jean Rogers lead an interactive discussion in the field classroom
where participants learned where wild trees grow as well as how various
factors (like wind, rain and animals) contribute to their emergence
and growth.

Oaks (Quercus bicolor) pictured are the wild trees at Fresh Pond
that have evolved to grow in the northeast. Program participants listen
as Ranger Jean Rogers (wearing a hat with her hand on the tree trunk)
shows participants how bark, twig and bud identification are ways to
identify deciduous trees in winter.
Middle Photo: Participants admire this stately European Beech
(Fagus sylvatica), a horticultural tree that was planted many
years ago but is now growing wild.
Right Photo: Participants (in small groups) researched different
trees they encountered in the field and shared their findings with the
rest of the group.
