American Hazelnut (Corylus Americana)

The disproportionate size of the male and female flowers of the hazelnut (also known as American Filbert) would seem almost comical if the large male catkins did not hang so gracefully from the ends of the branches, and the minute female flowers along the stems did not radiate such an intensely vibrant color from their tiny ribbon-like petals.
