Nature Lives!
A Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation Program
Like all of its predecessors, Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation's sixth
annual "Nature Lives!" walk offered lots of surprises and
interesting organisms for us to observe. Within a few minutes of going
outside, invertebrate enthusiast Tom Murray turned over a log for us,
and we found its underside crawling with small arthropods, including
these sowbugs, Order: Isopoda (top left photo), scorpions, and
other small critters. Mycologist Larry Millman pointed out fresh fungi,
including this jellylike Brown Witches' Butter, Tremella foliacea
(lower left), and one of our younger members found scat (feces) probably
left by a coyote (lower right.)
