Whole Tree Identification
A Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation Program

During this program, we walked around the Reservation looking at a number of specimen trees, mature trees that illustrate the characteristics of their species. Winter offers an opportunity for us to study the shapes and branching patterns of deciduous trees, free of the masking effect of leaves. Here, program leader Susan Coolidge, wearing a red scarf, describes some characteristics of a Sugar Maple, Acer saccharum.
