Christmas Tree Mulch
Every year the City collects and grinds up discarded Christmas trees, which it then makes available for residents to use as mulch. At Fresh Pond Reservation the material is spread on woodland paths, where it softens the impact of foot traffic on tree roots. The freshly ground mulch perfumes the air with the smell of balsam fir.These piles are at the top of Kingsley Park hillside.
