A few warm days melted this section of Fresh Pond, where water enters the pond via an underground conduit from the Stony Brook Reservoir in the Cambridge upper watershed. When the rest of the pond is frozen, this is a favorite hanging-out place for gulls. The cold weather recently had left even this area frozen.
