Red-tailed Hawk, Buteo jamaicensis
This handsome hawk was sitting in a dead tree near Little Fresh Pond,
observing the pedestrians below. Identifying characteristics include
the "belly band" of brown feathers on a light colored breast,
and a relatively short tail which, from another angle was clearly colored
rusty red. This was a relatively small Red-tail, suggesting that it
is a male.
