Celebrate the Winter Solstice
Naturalist Boot Boutwell provided both education and entertainment about the seasons for a large group of participants in this program. He read poetry and sang songs about the winter solstice, then used models to illustrate the way the sun illuminates the earth during various times of the year. At about 4 pm we went outside to watch the sun set over Fresh Pond, and joined in a simple ceremony of gratitude for the natural world of which we are a part.
