Rose Mallow, Hibiscus moscheutos
This showy wildflower is growing in the island in the middle of the Cambridge Water Department parking lot. Such a large flower, about 8 inches in diameter, seems more tropical than appropriate to New England, but it is native to this area. The tower of the water department building is in the background.
