Double-crested Cormorants

Pond-walkers who are not familiar with the perching habits of these large waterfowl are often startled to see them, often in a group, sitting in the branches of several dead trees near Little Fresh Pond. Today there were 26 of them, and recently there have been as many as 35. They are probably resting at the Pond during their winter migration to warmer climes. When the birds are not perching they can be seen swimming and diving for a meal of fish.
