          Final Foray
During the last regularly scheduled invasive weed removal session in
2010, five volunteers removed common and glossy buckthorns (Rhamnus
cathartica and Frangula alnus) from the woods between Neville
Place and the Lusitania Meadow, where thetrees were growing around four
enormous American beech trees (Fagus grandifolia.) Watershed
Manager's Assistant Deb Albenberg (left photo) has led weeding sessions
throughout the summer and fall. During this and three earlier sessions
near the beech trees, weeders cleared a large swath of woods and left
an enormous mound of uprooted buckthorns.
