An Evening Walk in the Upper Cambridge Watershed
Dave Kaplan, Watershed Protection Supervisor (top left photo, plaid
shirt), and Chip Norton, Watershed Manager (holding map) led this exploration
of a 55-acre parcel of Cambridge-owned land in Lexington. Known as "Parcel
3," it includes hilly woods and sandplain heathland under an NSTAR
power easement (right photo.) We saw many wildflowers, including (left
to right, bottom row),Canada mayflower (Maianthemum canadensis),
Sheep Laurel (Kalmia angustifolia), Bluets (Houstonia caerulea),
a lichen called British soldiers (Cladonia cristatella) and Wild
Oats (Uvularia sessilifolia.)
