Controlling Invasive Weeds in Your Yard
We used the Reservation's own invasive weeds to demonstrate their removal
and disposal. In the left photo, walk leader Claudia Thompson shows
the roots of Black swallowwort (Cynanchum louiseae) to the group.
Participants in the right photo are enthusiastically removing Garlic
mustard (Alliaria petiolata). We also practiced removing Bittersweet
(Celastrus orbiculatus), Common and Glossy buckthorns (Rhamnus
cathartica and Frangula alnus), and Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis.)
We put the weeds we removed into black plastic trash bags to be buried
in a landfill.
