Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias)
Sighted on the Edge of Fresh Pond (Near Weir Meadow) Something has
obviously caught the attention of this Great Blue Heron as it looks
skyward. Great Blue Herons are the largest and most widespread herons
in North America. Their diet consists mainly of fish but they also eat
small animals (such as frogs and field [vole] mice). They can be found
in open habitats, on the edge of ponds, lakes and wet meadows.
