Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol Monitoring
This small group of volunteers led by Emily Tansey (holding paper) of the Cambridge Water Department, measured the heights and counted the stems of the Purple loosestrife growing in the wetland near Little Fresh Pond. Galerucella beetles were released in the wetland on June 2. Beetles were released there also in 2007 and 2009. So far the amount of damage inflicted on the loosestrife appears minimal.
