Screech Owl Boxes at Fresh Pond Reservation

The Cambridge Water Department recently built and has just hung four nesting boxes for Screech Owls at Fresh Pond Reservation. The metal flashing below the boxes is a predator guard that will prevent raccoons from raiding the boxes. Screech Owls nest at different times of the year, not only in the spring.
The boxes, numbered 1 through 4, are located as follows:
Box 1 - Lower Kingsley Park path, north end near Water Dept. On a telephone pole.
Box 2 - Woods adjacent to Lusitania Meadow's east entrance (the end nearer Fresh Pond Parkway) On a dead tree snag.
Box 3 - Woods adjacent to Lusitania Meadow, visible from about the middle of the C-shaped path around the meadow. On a dead tree snag.
Box 4 - Woods adjacent to the Butterfly Meadow east end, near the large American Beech trees. On a live tree trunk.
