Winterberry Holly, Ilex verticillata
These berries are growing on a native American holly species that is
deciduous (loses its leaves in the fall), but their birght color more
than make up for the loss of leaf color. The fruits will become food
for a flock of hungry robins or cedar waxwings late in the winter when
there is not much else to eat. These bushes are growing near the information
board at Kingsley Park.
