Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)
The Eastern Gray squirrel is omnivorous. This squirrel is very high
as it eats a partially visible bud. The V formation is where two branches
from this tall tree have split from the trunk. Eastern Grays are year
round inhabitants on the Reservation. Their tree dens are hollow cavities
in live trees. These dens are where they nest, have their young, and
spend several days at a time in when the winter weather is to harsh,
although they are active all year long. In the Fall, Grays gather nuts
and acorns which are buried one at a time. This winter food supply is
found beneath a foot of snow by smell.
