How Fresh Pond Got It's Start
Left Photo - Participants met at the golf course parking lot
and walked down to Perimeter Road to show participants how glaciers
formed the topography of Fresh Pond Reservation. Ranger Jean Rogers
(second from right) provides information, encourages participants to
ask questions, and contribute to this discussion (as shown).
Middle Photo - Ranger Jean Rogers holds two rocks and explains
how rocks are made smaller and moved by glacial pressure. The rocks
are made of the same material, but one is from Maine, and the other
was found on the Reservation. Her programs provide participants with
"on hands" experiences.
Right Photo - (Beech Path near Neville Place) Ranger Jean Rogers
(with blue backpack) describes how a 1 1/2 mile high glacier affected
the topography when a colossal chunk
(from on top) broke off, fell, and how the giant glacier continued to
move around it. The area between where participants are standing and
Fresh Pond once was a steep drop (like
a cliff) created by this impact.
