Weeping Willow (Salix babylonica) on the Golf Course

Willow leaves are one of the first to sprout in the spring. Since willows
thrive near water, or damp ground, a few were planted next to a small
pond. Weeping Willows originated in Western China about 2,000 years
ago, are thought to have reached the Middle East via The Silk Road
trade route about 1,000 years ago, and were introduced to North America
in colonial times. There are many hybrids in North America.
