Tree Swallows are Back!
Today Fresh Pond Ranger Jean Rogers and I put up 11 of the Reservation's
15 Tree Swallow boxes. The boxes are always taken down in the fall for
cleaning and winter storage. As we were putting up a box on the hillside
behind Neville Place, we heard a twittering sound, and looked up to
see about 6 Tree Swallows circling overhead, the first we have seen
this year. As we passed by other boxes that we had already put up, we
noticed swallows already inspecting them.
As I took this photo of Box #1 in front of the Water Purification Facility,
I discovered this swallow sitting on a branch above the box.
