Highbush Cranberry (Vburnum trilobum)
This picture was taken near Neville Place. A row of Highbush Cranberry
shrubs grow beside the fence that encloses the Community Gardens. The
red berries of this native shrub are edible, but so tart that they require
a lot of sugar to be palatable. Birds initially find the berries too
tart, but eat them in late winter, when food is scarce.
